Refreshing new look on World war 2 however lacking characters backstory and development. The whole relationship between Tom Hanks and his future wife? Felt forced and added for the sake of it. a taut action-drama that will hearken back to we were soldiers meets das boot for some, or to saving private ryan for viewers with a more limited catalogue under their belts. greyhound is focused on the mission of a destroyer captain, from the time his boots hit the deck to the time his slippered feet can finally retire. it'll carve a niche out even for those who've seen a lot more war films, since the battles at sea have not been as often covered as those by land or even air. director aaron schneider's choice to keep us rooted with hanks' "captain krause" on the bridge lends a very read more

movie starts with so much technical talk that i thought it was going to go over my head but somehow they ease you into understanding everything. so, you have to give props to hanks for the masterful work on the screenplay. this was a passion project of his. i'd recommend listening to the recent dan carlin's hardcore history episode with hanks as the guest before watching.. it's only an hour but it's a great and informative conversation. read more

How Commander Ernie Krause, leading his first convoy across the Atlantic, minimized damage and casualties in dodging and fighting a pack of nazi U-Boots. Working from C. S. Forester's 1955 novel "The Good Shepherd", star, co-producer, and solo writer Hanks once again taps into his personal fascination for WWII and focuses on the details of sea warfare more than plotting.
