another winner from marvel. this film is light on the action, heavy on the characters and a blast from start to finish. hemsworth, as thor, is awesome and hilarious. portman, hiddleston, dennings, hopkins, gregg, russo and skarsgard all bring enthusiasm and fun in great supporting roles and there are a slew of other performances that are just as good if a little more minor. branagh does a great job of directing and although not much happens (and it ends up feeling like a setup for the avengers) you will be thoroughly entertained and will laugh, love and want more when the film ends. 80/100... read more

this is probably my third time seeing thor? i've never thought too much of it before, and i remember it outright boring me in the past. yet, here it is- full of heart, laughs and lively comic book camp. you can feel the decade passed more often than i would like, but thor is undeniably sturdier and more fun than i expected. it's well paced and decently structured. the vibrant color palate and lavish production design are also very cool. in rewatching phase one so far, i've grown less fond of a few others, but my opinion on thor has- if anything, improved. read more

for father's day, decided to rewatch the mcu's big father & sons trilogy. this viewing, i watched the films purely as sequels to each other, imagining i hadn't seen any other marvel movies. i also watched three fan-edits that attempted to add in deleted material and tighten up the films. here are a few thoughts i had while re-watching this one (my old review of the film in general is here: https://letterboxd.com/nottheacademy/film/thor/) this film flows so much better with the fan-edit chronology, where we spend the first 45 minutes with thor on earth. it does a lot to build up all the read more
