i had it in my head that i'd given this a more dour review when i first watched it. i love my comic book movies so i decided to give it another whirl. i enjoyed myself and was pleasantly surprised. i checked out my previous review and i was pretty positive then too. why had i decided i had a negative outlook? strange. lizard is still the main problem with the film. it's not the fault of rhys ifans in the slightest. he does a great take on dr. connors. i just think the look was wrong and too unbelieveable. even in a film where a kid gets bitten by a spider and gains super powers. it just read more

finally, "amazing" is what "spider-man" should've been a decade ago. it was nice capturing the rougher feel of nyc, i.e. fire escapes and backalleys. i really enjoyed the unsure, pendulum-swinging spidey, bringing me back to the days of "the greatest american hero", which is what he stands for, really. all in all, a great reboot of the franchise, though the stan lee cameo seemed a bit out of place. read more

i have heard a lot of complaints about the amazing spider-man, and many of them revolve around a few things: the lizard, the fact that the reboot never should have happened so quickly and peter parker being untrue to the character. i will agree with one of those in every aspect, and agree to disagree on the others. undoubtedly, this reboot came too soon and there was no reason that sony should have gotten this going other than the fact that they were afraid to let the rights fall back into marvel's now-capable hands. it has only been five years since spider-man 3 did big business but hurt... read more

this was actually one of the best spider-man movies. andrew garfield makes a great spider-man, even if he isn't a ideal peter parker. it was fun and entertaining. i just wish spider-man could fight a villain that wasn't one of his mentors that is being corrupted. read more

É assustador pensar que eu tinha tanta repulsa por esse filme e por essa versão do homem aranha, pq revendo hoje eu acho que foi a melhor encarnação que ele teve em live action. o andrew fez um peter muito mais emotivo e humano, algo muito mais fácil dos expectadores se identificarem, principalmente na sua forma introvertida. além de ter uma das historias mais bem amarradas, um bom vilão (apesar que no final o objetivo é bem cômico) e uma dinâmica do peter com a gwen que deixa qq uma da mj no chinelo. read more

it takes everything that made the original a good/decent movie and made it worse. sure the newer visuals are nice and i have to admit towards the end it's not all that bad. but overall it's quite a poor excuse for a movie which aims to rewrite the original. i feel that when compared to spider man (2002) almost everything is worse (main actors/characters overall story character development and more). read more

oh man, i really want to like this one. it does have some cool moments, but a lot of stuff just doesn't work. peter is slightly all cool and suave in a weird way, he's also really full of that good old-fashioned teen angst, and the story isn't really all that great. i respect doing another interpretation of a loved character, but this just doesn't quite land it. read more

i've never really been to new york, but i don't think there are so many lizards in the city. anyway, the best way to describe the film is that it's fine and very goofy (no pun intended), but not much else. it certainly has its sympathetic moments, almost always from andrew, but when the script focuses on the central conflict of the film, it's terrible. the music is not bad, both the soundtrack and the songs that appear work just alright. same goes for the photography. the cgi sometimes looks straight out of a videogame, and the lizard is practically just "i want to turn people into dinosaurs"... read more

Nothing is wrong with this movie. "Peter is too cool" - that's not what I gathered from the movie, in fact I fell like he's more like me. the introverted teenager, who stutters when they talk, who will stand up to bullies. tobey maguire's versions was the cartoonist view of shy teenagers in the early 00's which is okay- they don't have to be the same to be good. "The lizard is the worst villain" - I'd agree to an extent, but is he really THAT bad.
