Outstanding movie! Masterfully directed. A real gem. On the high price that needs to be paid in exchange for greatness.
The story of the rivalry between two men in which each one of them tries top the other and have their vengeance; but that doesn't come without self-sacrifice.

Cutter: Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".

Borden: This is the trick. This is the performance. Right here. This is why no one can detect his method. Total devotion to his art. A lot of self-sacrifice. You know. It's the only way to escape... all this, you know?

Angier: Borden writes as if no one but he understood the true nature of magic. But what does he know of self-sacrifice?

Borden: Never show anyone. They'll beg you and flatter you for the secret, but as soon as you give it up, you'll be nothing to them. You understand? Nothing. The secret impresses no one. The trick you use it for is everything.

Angier: I don't want to kill doves.
Cutter: Then stay off the stage. You're a magician, not a wizard. You got to get your hands dirty, if you're going to achieve the impossible.

Tesla: You're familiar with the phrase "man's reach exceeds his grasp"? It's a lie: man's grasp exceeds his nerve. Society only tolerates one change at a time. First time I tried to change the world, I was hailed as a visionary. Second time, I was asked politely to retire.

Tesla: Go home, forget this thing. I can recognize an obsession. No good will come of it.
Angier: Hasn't good come of your obsessions?
Tesla: At first, but I have followed them too long. I am their slave. And one day, they will choose to destroy me.
Angier: If you understand an obsession, then you know you won't change my mind.
Tesla: So be it.

Cutter: Obsession is a young man's game.
