ahhh... r-rated arnold! you just can't go wrong. total recall is a splendid feast for your eyes made during arnold's peak as an actor and star. r-rated for boobs, violence, gore galore, swearing and sharon stone. relentless, with a pace that never lets up and action that is literally out of this world. it's actually surprising how much this movie makes sense. most probably due to verhoeven as this screenplay, in virtually any one else's hands, would come of as to confusing. here it makes perfect sense. so much better than the remake it's not funny. high repeat value, a winning performance read more

july blockbuster marathon: 7/10 it was my little brothers' first time with this weird-ass piece of subversive popcorn entertainment. they were shocked, grossed out, stunned, and excited the whole way through. it's a machine of a movie, delivering thundering action scenes in bizarre settings, with each wild set piece eclipsing the last. total recall is also one of the last sfx driven blockbusters that digs on matte paintings, miniatures, and practical effects as opposed to opting for cgi as a does-it-all. the result is bloody effective- literally. total recall might be schwarzenegger's... read more

such a well-done movie that knew it's limits. tons of really great practical effects along with some cool sci-fi concepts make a really entertaining film. that and arnold schwarzenegger is a beast of a dude. read more

Terrific sci-fi action adventure flick that's also a great entry into the "don't invent the torment nexus" movie canon which is no surprise given a) who made the it and b) who wrote the novel it's based on. Verhoven's depiciton of Mars and space colonial society is stunning but also ugly in all the right places, and the prosthetics for all the mutations and body horror are pretty fantastic. Not to mention it's a real vintage Arnie performance with the big fella tackling a role with a bit of meat on it while also being able to do some old school Arnie shit. 2nd viewing after seeing it in the theater. One of the Verhoven 3 with Robocop and Starship Troopers. The effects don't stand up, you gotta watch it through nostalgic eyes. Worth a watch. read more
