let me preface this by saying that my girlfriend is the one who not only wanted to watch this today but also knew it was the movie's 20th anniversary. i kind of went into this expecting to be let down. and i think that was a good thing, because if i had gone into shrek with high hopes i feel like i would have been disappointed. but going in with low expectations left this one with some room to positively surprise me. it's far from perfect but it's a fun, tight 90 minutes. oh, and the soundtrack slaps. read more

My ideal fifth installment in the Shrek franchise (excluding all spin-offs) would feature a primary antagonist whose character functions as a commentary on the current state of Disney. Much has changed in the past two decades since Shrek was first introduced to the world, so Im certain there would be more to criticize and new ideas to bring to the table; on top of that, I believe that itd be a smart move to return to some of the more satirical roots from where the series was born; reestablishing that biting edge and wit that was somewhat lost the more saturated, yet watered down Shrek as a... read more
