i hadnt seen this in a while and wasnt sure how it had aged. while the action hadnt aged as well as i hoped, the parable on fascism and the political commentary still works. it is a pretty standard orwellian dystopia that was originally written as a critique of thatcherism, adapted into a film criticizing the bush administration, and still works as a criticism of modern politics. that really is more a compliment of orwell than this reimagining in particular, since at almost any point it isnt hard to squint and see a world where political figures are playing off the populations fears to read more

imagine if they had kept him in room 3 and he went around calling himself iii it's sort of unfortunate how this is good and well-made but its reputation is ruined by people who just think it's cool and watch it with entirely uncritical eyes. and the people with the masks. i mean, i wouldn't call it great or anything but it's an above average quality film and really gets you in the mood for some revolution. read more
