surely one of the few films where the dog actually gets killed? i can't think of any others. there are numerous faults with this film but nothing greater than the fact a fucking t-rex can go into hiding having stomped off the boat. read more

the franchise challenge - jurassic park favourite director list - stephen spielberg the lost world: jurassic park everything time i see this i flip flop between likely and not really liking all the much. todays watch was a not really liking it all that much. there were moments where i was like “ugh” in my head which is never good. it never ever reaches the quality of the first film and seemed like a rip off of king kong at times (which i understand it was going for). not for me this time - ⭐️⭐️&1/2 read more

Ah, yes... the sequel. Didn't see it since VHS times. Nice leap, huh? From VHS to 4K. But you know... it's not... really a movie you may willingly want to re-watch. Like... ever. Even sitting through it once may be a problem. And not only because, even though it's called “The Lost World”, it doesn't really follow the book much. And yes, even though Michael Crichton didn't really do sequels, he actually wrote a sequel to his Jurassic Park. Because money. And naturally, it was a disaster. The Lost World is definitely not the best Jurassic Park, but it might be my favorite. 1A, maybe. I saw it in theaters when I was 3, so I've always held a soft spot for it. Especially cause the toys and games were amazing. But still, I really like this movie, what with Jeff Goldblum starring. The side characters are really good (I love Richard Schiff and Pete Postlethwaite in particular). One big problem, and you can find this on the Internet anywhere, so it's not exactly original: SARAH AND NICK ARE THE WORST. The Lost World forgets, arguably, the most important factor that made Jurassic Park so good - simplicity. Jurassic Park is an incredibly simple and straightforward story while The Lost World decides to throw just about everything it can into the mix to try to create a compelling story. I do still like The Lost World, it just tries to do way too much and results in an incredibly messy story because of it. It does have perhaps the most iconic match cut in cinema history though, from the mother screaming to Jeff Goldblum yawning. read more
