the name of steven spielberg usually guarantees something special and minority report certainly is. the futuristic thriller is set in washington dc in the year 2054 and is based on the (short) story 'the minority report' by science-fiction writer philip k. dick (1928-1982). dick's work is popular in hollywood because films like blade runner and total recall are also inspired by his work. dick suffered from depression, experimented with psychedelic drugs, and was paranoid therefore it's not surprising that dick's work does not show a cheerful picture of the future. the future human is a read more

one of those movies where i feel like everything that could be said about it has already been said but here's a few of my quick takeaways: - crap title, good movie. - did product placement pay for the entire movie's budget? - why did no one question the violation of human rights that came with perpetually keeping three people in a kiddy pool and having a weird and pretty rapey vibe guy keep them heavily sedated? - justice for poor old colin farrell. he was just doing his job. - those creepy spider bots were pretty slick. - i know they were going for the whole futuristic sci-fi feel but i read more

i very thoroughly enjoyed this one, with the attention to the small details of the established universe, the unique visual style of slight blurriness and brightness, and the intriguing story with its neat twists really mixed well in another highly appealing sci-fi thriller from spielberg. read more

some thoughts: i used to absolutely love this movie.. but now there's a lot of little stuff i'm seeing that easy to pick apart... but... it's still spielberg and i still love it. only recently did i realize that the ending is probably just a nice happy dream our boy tommy cruise is having while prison sleeping. it's not a happy ending unless you own stock in lexus. they are the future! "in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king" says the freaky ass drug dealer with no eyes. what did that mean? home automation isn't that cool anymore but was way cool in 2002. also in 2054 physical read more

I kind of have a problem with this film, mostly due to the color pallette used in the city. The blues in this film seriously made me sick. Considering that I have seen no other movies set in the future with this color palette of blues, I would call Spielberg a innovator, but every time I saw a blue I wanted to vomit. read more
