critics are bashing this movie. currently, as i write this, it sits at a meagre 20% on rotten tomatoes. that didn't hold me back from seeing it though. i like some adam sandler stuff that has been received pretty poorly, that's my boy! for example. i also like chris columbus as a director (but more as a writer). i'll tell you though, this film here, is no good. it had the makings of a good film, a great concept but it is filled with things that don't work. you see this is a happy madison (hm) production and as such it feels like one. it starts with sandler as a kid, he and his 'friends' do... read more

what i kept wondering throughout this film is how did kevin james' character ever become president of the usa? what party would have backed someone with those traits? how does a character devoid of charm or intelligence or any desirable presidential qualities even make it into a primary race, much less a general election? this has to be one of the most baffling mysteries in film in recent memory. the fact that this was the only thing i was thinking throughout the film was a sign that there was really nothing else about this film to engage with. honestly, the concept at the center of this film... read more

not as bad as initially feared but not particularly good either, pixels is mostly a rote exercise in mindless blockbusterism. there's nothing wrong with that in theory and there are certainly some moments, exemplified by peter dinklage's goofy turn as a billy mitchell-like jerkwad, but where this action-comedy goes wrong is in being lazy. adam sandler plays an adam sandler-like character, kevin james plays a kevin james-like character and josh gad plays a josh gad-like character. most of the jokes and set-ups play like elements from other, better movies. the women are largely treated as read more
