Megan Fox's Mikaela does not fare well in the Transformers movies. She exists to be an object, obviously, but that objectification is worth examining further. In the first movie, she is an object of desire and status, Sam's (Shia LaBeouf) attainment of her an affirmation of his heroic status. In the second movie she is an object of resentment as Sam has to contend with the fact that Mikaela is a human being with needs of her own. this quirky comic classic has fallen by the bay-side, and turned into a corny cgi-fest on speed, with bad lines and unconvincing animated-character acting. the dirty sewer rat shifu wasn't what i imagined him to be, but mostly it was the lack of cohesive plot that wrecked it for me. read more

teenage mutant ninja turtles isn't so much terrible as it is aggressively and passionately mediocre. jonathan liebesman's reboot of the classic 1980s cartoon (itself, of course, based on the comic book series) retains enough of the titular characters' heart to mildly entertain at times, but hamstrings itself with a plot that is simultaneously tired, cliched and ridiculous. the story makes changes to the anthropomorphic heroes' story in unnecessary ways but doesn't go so far as to ruin them, while creating silly moments like april o'neil's sudden revelation of who they are. the villains are... read more

i was absolutely one of those people who took one look at the trailer and said "ew. no thanks." i avoided this movie for well over a year. it even cycled in and right back out of netflix, and i wasn't even remotely tempted to see it. however, in the recent smattering of super bowl trailers, i noticed there was a new teaser for the sequel to this movie, teenage mutant ninja turtles: out of the shadows. i ended up reading the comments on it... and it was full of crotchety vitriol and rampant elitism. did i ever sound like that when talking about these movies? ugh. i immediately backpedaled and... read more

My quick rating - 5;6/10. Not that the franchise as a whole needed a reboot; but these latest two are better than what the 90s had to offer. I did like the second one; "Out of the Shadows" better. Maybe because Sheamus was in it. Anyway; same story; Shredder is out to take over New York; and then; the world. Standing in the way is the super powered heroes. Action galore; plenty of wise cracks; half of which are stupid; and definitely a popcorn movie. Not a waste but not spectacular either. read more

Pretty good recreation of the 1990 film.Same New York setting but this time the movie is in 3d.It's good this has been remade for a new generation with all the special effects and sound that goes with todays blockbusters.The long sequence in the snow I found really exciting even in my adult years.Great movie for all generations. read more

i don't think this is a very good movie. no, not at all but it's still entertaining and if you grew up watching the turtles as a kid you might find lots to like. it's story may be terrible, filled with plot holes and moments that forget to pay off, and the dialogue maybe trite but it's cool to see the turtles in action and it's directed with a certain aplomb that makes it look quite good. forget the nay sayers who say this is the worst movie ever. forget the fact that this has less that 20% on rottentomatoes. those people are hating just to be haters. no way is this a good movie and no way... read more

i completely forgot that i watched this until i saw an old poster for it. that's how great it was. to be fair it wasn't as terrible as i expected. however, it was far from being a good film that i want to see again. it was just far too laden with coincidences to be watchable. read more
