Not the worst exorcism film but it also just fell flat for me. It was just really mediocre. There are some good bits, even a neat blood scene (which we don't normally get in this subgenre). But overall I just did not care for the characters too much or the story of it. The plot just felt like it had some holes. read more

Super effects, weaker story, overall a good average exorcism horror.

There were no spine chills, which horror movies must have. On the other hand, few horror movies today give chills. It lacked a slightly better story, but what I have to praise are definitely the film effects, masks, etc. That was quite successful.

My quick rating - 6;3/10. Great soundtrack so far. "The Pope's Exorcist" is a supernatural thriller that follows the journey of Gabriele Amorth; portrayed by Russell Crowe; who plays the role of the Vatican's leading exorcist. The film takes an intriguing premise of investigating the possession of a child and intertwines it with a Vatican conspiracy that has been shrouded in secrecy. With above-average acting and the killer soundtrack I noticed straight away; the movie manages to captivate you to a certain extent since I found myself quite drawn in. Franco Nero Popping up out of nowhere was a surprise. The makeup/SFX were also particularly well done for the budget, imo. I didn't get much else out of the film otherwise. read more

Forget The Mystery Machine, it's all about Russell Crowe's vespa. The history of Father Amorth is very interesting, but this movie is extremely childish. Feels like a 5 year old watched the Exorcist/The Conjuring and decided to copy them, while adding some sprinkles of The Da Vinci Code. Get ready for 199 sequels. read more

Trying to catch up on some modern horror. I'm not a fan of demon possession / exorcist movies. There really is nothing new here. The other priest I kept referring to as Spanish Karate Kid provided some entertainment. It's not a terrible movie it's just a typical exorcist movie. Russell Crowe became a quirky old man somewhere along the way. I'm not sure how you can make the exorcist genre original and interesting, but when they do let me know.I thought the ending was gonna be a twist but nope. It just kinda ends on a set up for sequels. "The devil hates jokes" just like leftists! read more
