Jesus, I hope 2023s Sick does not set the tone for 2023s year for horror. This is directed by John Hyams of which Im not familiar with but does a fine job directing. Youve also got Kevin Williamson doing a story credit and if you dont know who that is he did the story for ‘Scream and ‘The Faculty. This stars Gideon Adlon from that The Craft reboot from a few years back and Dylan Sprayberry from Teen Wolf: The Series.

And Ill just get to the point when I say this, thanks for letting me down, Kevin. This is another lackluster Peacock/Blumhouse movie just like last years They/Them. Now this isnt as egregiously bad as They/Them, but its another paint by numbers slasher. The story beats in this movie arent anything we havent seen before.

Our final girl in this is so bad in this. Shes not a good actor and her character is written to be such a bitch. Her boyfriend clearly loves her and had to die for her. I loved Dylan Sprayberry in this and he was a very likeable character and he died at the halfway mark. After that she just kind of moved on and we got to the horrible twist of this movie.

The protagonist kissed a random boy at a party and then he died from COVID and the parents came after her. Its generic as fuck and I hate it. I wanted more from this movie, maybe it playing into the true horror of the pandemic but it didnt really. The kills here sucks too.

This movie is just generic and hardly enjoyable. Its just a huge let down. Did I expect Sick to become X? No. But I thought maybe it couldve been a tense and fun experience but it wasnt. Its got a good performance in Dylan Sprayberry but this movie just kind of blew and I cant give it anything more than 1.5 stars.
